The 'Old Town' section of Rhodes feels like walking back in time (except for the tourist shops and the restaurants trying to convince you to eat at their establishments). The pebbled streets with their beautiful patterns, the narrow passageways along with the interesting nooks makes it an immersive experience.
One of the challenges of Rhodes's old town is the constant need to dodge scooters. Occasionally though, you will find something a little more interesting parked inside.
The Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights of Rhodes base started in the 7th century. It has a very pretty appearance from the outside, especially its turrets. The courtyard inside features geometric patterns and statues.
The interior was cavernous and rather cold with its stone walls and beautiful timber ceilings. Some rooms were wallpapered but this was not enough to make them feel warm and inviting.
Located just outside Old Town, New Town features a more modern architecture which for a moment makes you think you are back on a mainland European city.
Situated above Rhodes, the acropolis contains some amazing ruins. The marble amphitheatre is stunning.
The northern tip of Rhodes features some pebble beaches and is the location of some larger hotels.
The walk along the harbour is great with many status and old fortifications,
The weather can change quickly, and we were caught in several massive downpours.
